Do not use the Roland unless you have had Roland Printer Training. This is just a checklist.

Prep file[edit | edit source]

  • design using RGB colour mode in CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator (preferred)
  • vinyl cut lines need to be assigned a spot colour stroke named CutContour
  • in order for a vector to cut as perforations through the vinyl and its backing paper, it needs to be assigned a spot colour stroke name PerfCutContour
  • save as a .pdf file: No compression. No colour conversion. Don't include profiles.

Setting up roll of media[edit | edit source]

  • detailed instructions are in the file holder on the wall
  • push media through the printer until you hear one beep. keep pushing
  • after 5 seconds, you'll hear two beeps, and the suction fan will start, holding the media in place
  • "rewind" the material using the media holder flange to eliminate any slack - plus an additional 6 inches or so
  • go to the front of the machine and move the pinch rollers into the appropriate positions (blue guides)
  • lower the loading lever to engage the pinch rollers
  • position the media clamps to the left and right edges of the material
  • press "setup" on the Roland screen
  • select the material you are using
  • generally, you will not want to use the take up reel
  • the printer will run through some checks and if all is well, an "output possible" message will appear

Sending the print job[edit | edit source]

  • open VersaWorks on the Roland PC
  • drag your .pdf file into the appropriate queue
  • rename the job to include your name (if the file doesn't already)
  • double click the job, or click on the "gear" at the bottom left of the jobs window to get to the setup options
  • under Layout, click "get media width", you can also adjust the size and quantities here. When done, click ok
  • Click on the "print" icon
  • the file gets ripped and then sent to the printer. Larger files may take a few minutes

Shut-down[edit | edit source]

  • raise the pinch rollers by lifting the loading lever
  • wind the material back onto the roll
  • press the "on/off" button on the screen of the printer to TURN OFF SUB POWER
