Do not use the Roland unless you have had Roland Printer Training. This is just a checklist.
Prep file[edit | edit source]
- design using RGB colour mode in CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator (preferred)
- vinyl cut lines need to be assigned a spot colour stroke named CutContour
- in order for a vector to cut as perforations through the vinyl and its backing paper, it needs to be assigned a spot colour stroke name PerfCutContour
- save as a .pdf file: No compression. No colour conversion. Don't include profiles.
Setting up roll of media[edit | edit source]
- detailed instructions are in the file holder on the wall
- push media through the printer until you hear one beep. keep pushing
- after 5 seconds, you'll hear two beeps, and the suction fan will start, holding the media in place
- "rewind" the material using the media holder flange to eliminate any slack - plus an additional 6 inches or so
- go to the front of the machine and move the pinch rollers into the appropriate positions (blue guides)
- lower the loading lever to engage the pinch rollers
- position the media clamps to the left and right edges of the material
- press "setup" on the Roland screen
- select the material you are using
- generally, you will not want to use the take up reel
- the printer will run through some checks and if all is well, an "output possible" message will appear
Sending the print job[edit | edit source]
- open VersaWorks on the Roland PC
- drag your .pdf file into the appropriate queue
- rename the job to include your name (if the file doesn't already)
- double click the job, or click on the "gear" at the bottom left of the jobs window to get to the setup options
- under Layout, click "get media width", you can also adjust the size and quantities here. When done, click ok
- Click on the "print" icon
- the file gets ripped and then sent to the printer. Larger files may take a few minutes
