Consultative Based

(Defer to Subject Matter Experts SMEs)
(AKA Delphi Method)

Consultative decision making is characterized as:

  • Moderately fast
  • Somewhat collaborative
  • Hierarchical
  • Relatively private

It's best used when expertise from a limited group is needed or when support from key members is crucial.

  1. Assessing the situation and evaluating obvious choices
  2. Selecting 2-3 people with valuable information or perspectives
  3. Asking for their opinions (allowing time for consideration if needed)
  4. Making the final decision
    1. If that doesn’t work move onto one of the other methods of decision making listed below
  5. Communicating the decision to the group
