Concent Based
Consent Based Decision Making
Consent decision making is based on the absence of objections rather than unanimous agreement. It works well for decisions that need to be made quickly, have clearly defined proposals, and have limited, reversible impacts
- Gather the group and identify a proposal
- Elect a Facilitator (likely a co-chair) and Recorder (co-chair or other member)
- Review the rules (no interruptions, aim for 'safe to try' solutions, embrace “good enough” solutions)
- State the proposal
- Conduct a question round for clarification
- Hold a reaction round soliciting feedback. Proposer listens but is not expected to respond to each reaction
- Restate the proposal with any revisions. The group listens but doesn’t respond.
- Conduct an objection round to identify paramount objections
- Address and resolve objections
- Ratify the proposal when no objections remain
- If that doesn’t work move onto one of the other methods of decision making listed below
